The Need of Generators for the Home

No matter which country you live in, almost every household has to deal with power outages and power failures even for short duration of time. This can be a big problem especially in those houses that need to have a constant supply of electricity if they have set up home offices or have some heavy appliances to run.

Moreover, frequent power cuts can actually destroy appliances like computers, refrigerators and TV because the constant power cuts burn the inside chips and parts. For these reasons, it is necessary to have generators for home, which can provide adequate power for furnaces, refrigerators, air conditioners and heaters to work.

Types of Home Generators:

There are two kinds of home generators -

Portable Generators - The portable generators are used when you have to power certain specific appliances like your personal computer or furnaces. Since they are portable and smaller in size, you can have several of these portables in your home and use it according to the capacity.

Stationary Generators - The stationary generators are used to power the whole house during power outage. These standby generators are bigger in size and usually installed in the house basement. Also, there are certain limits in which these generators work. In other words, while installing the stationary generators, you have to decide beforehand the number of electrical items you want to light. On that basis, you create combination's of generator connections and light only those appliances when there is no power.

Ideally, you should select that generator for the home which has more capacity that the maximum wattage requirements of the total number of appliances you are planning to connect it with. Moreover, remember that the total load on the generator should not go beyond the prescribed limit; otherwise the generator for the home can begin to malfunction. Remember that you should not connect the home generator with the home wiring system.

Instead you should connect the portable generator with recommended extension cords; otherwise mismatched cords can cause power overload and catch fire, thereby completely destroying expensive equipments. Generators for the home should be installed with the help of professional electrical contractors.
